We all have hunger hormones.
Appetite vs Hunger
Can they be repaired? Are your's malfunctioning?
Hunger is a real and physical sensation. It makes you eat to survive and, you will eat ANYTHING.
If you are using fat as a primary energy source, you will not feel hunger because you have fat available to use. You maybe realize, you are not physically hungry. You may have an appetite but, you don't' have hunger pains.
Appetitie - is closely tied to your emotions. You maybe are nervous, or anxious. Your hunger is not there, you just want to eat. Perhaps you're just happy and you want to eat. We also get this way when we are happy, sad and bored. We mentally convince ourselves we are hungry and we are NOT.
If you get the biology right, you don't need discipline. You'll just start to eat when you are hungry. You will identify your feelings and replace them with alternate ways for soothing the emotions for appetite.
What creates hunger?
Grehlin - consists of 28 amino acids. In 1999 it was identified in your stomach. Its found in your body. It has many jobs to do : Stimulate human growth. Increases Cortisol and prolactate. Increases Food DESIRE.
Grehlin - makes you crave more
Leptin - limits your hunger
Insulin - helps store food as fat, and makes you crave more.
Even a very SMALL amount of food can increase your Hunger Hormones
Things that drive UP your appetite:
+ Sleep Deprivation (You eat up to 400 extra calories per day)
+ Eating several meals a day (Have a whole meal and eat until you are SATISFIED instead.)
+ WE all need love, affection, friendship, significance. New research suggests that when we feel deprived, our Grehlin is increased. When you have THAT feeling...you just want to eat more. That deprivation.... wow, right? For sure, deprivation triggers APPETITE.
Your appetite is most likely all jacked up. Its influenced by TV, family, friends. Back at the turn of the century (1900's) everyone was thin and fit. In the 1970's this started to change. WOW? And young children are NOW more obese than ever. Families are SO fat. They eat more often. We think we can eat ALL the Friggen time!
Soothing with food. ARRRGGHHH
We do it to babies
We reward them with treats for going to the dr. visit
We reward them on their birthday
When they cry, we give them chocolate
After church, we have donuts in the fellowship hall.
Seriously, do we need food every hour?
Your friggen don't need to eat that often! You dont' need to count macros and just need to LISTEN to your body. Lifestyle choices and social norms. How about we start to change that? Fix your hunger hormones and correct your appetite.
Step 1. Stop Snacking. How often are you doing it for true hunger. Eat a large meal
Step 2. Eat until you are no longer hungry. Not stuffed. Not full. Be present when you eat. You need to tune IN to your body.
Step 3. Eat low sugar, low carb foods. The higher your carbs, the higher your sugar intake, the more likely you will produce insulin and you will store fat...and ongoes the Leptin, grehlin cycle.
Step 4. Limit stress.
Step 5. Continue to heal your gut by eating healthier foods.
Step 6. Be aware. How social norms are passed onto our children. Notice WHAT is trigering the thought that it is time to eat.
