How to Cook a Spaghetti Squash
using a Crockpot
Its November and the stores are filled with squash. Butternut, acorn, spaghetti...the list goes ON and ON! I've often baked my spaghetti squash in the oven by cutting it in 1/2 and de-seeding it. It worked okay....but, honestly- my hands can't always cut such a hard vegetable and well, the Crockpot way is about a bazillion times easier!
When would I use a Spaghetti Squash? In my opinion, Spaghetti squash is a great replacement for any dish with noodles in it - for 2 reasons: #1) Its lower in calories than your traditional noodle #2) Its a vegetable and we ALL need more of them in our life and #3) Its more nutrient dense than your traditional noodle.
Portions : 1 Cup = 1 Green
Servings: Depends on the size of your Spaghetti Squash
Step 1: Wash the Spaghetti Squash to remove any dirt and pesticides.
Step 2: With a fork, poke holes in the outside fleh(helps it cook and not explode).
Step 3: Place the Spaghetti Squash in a 4-6 qt crockpot and cook on low for 7 - 9 hours. Feel free to lightly spray the bottom of the crockpot(but honestly it shouldn't need it).
Step 4: Remove from the crockpot and let cool. Soak the crock filled with a soapy water for an hour to soak off any gunk before washing.
Step 5: With a cool spaghetti squash, using a knife, cut it in half. If you do not cool your Squash, you will risk burning yourself when you cut into it as the steam is very (super duper) hot!). Let it cool 1-2 hours or more.
