Clean Eating Tips - Detoxing - Day 1

Do you watch cooking shows, read cooking articles....everything comes out exactly as planned in the end, right?  Really, the only difference between them and you is that they have prepared what they are going to bake, cook and slice ahead of time.  They "prep" and, many times when we are cooking, we don't.  We cook on the fly.... thinking minutes before we get home...."what am I making tonight?!?!"  and then opting for delivery.

Prepping is CRITICAL people, if you're like me, you have a bazillion things you need to do each day and, can't even keep track of it all in your head!  But, this ONE tiny step of prepping your meals (everything for your day) will ensure that you stick to clean eating!

Sherry's Tips for Clean Eating (Prep work)
1. Shop for the entire week.  Start by planning out your 5 meals fort he week and then, pretty much, just buy the ingredients to make them....that's the grocery list!
BENEFIT: only 1 trip to the grocery store a week = less impulse buying = $$ saved.
Tip: Grocery shop on Saturday and meal prep on Sunday noon.
2. Slice & Chop your veggies.  Look at your 5 meals and chop up the veggies that are needed to make them.  Typically, this is the peppers and onions and mushrooms.
BENEFIT: You only have to chop once this week...no more slicing onions nightly!
Tip: Chop a little extra and put them in individual baggies in the fridge, they work great on salads, which are super to snack on!

3. Measure and portion snacks. Public enemy #1 - snacking.  Make it easy to reach for healthy snacks by portioning them and putting them in the fridge. This could be sliced veggies or portioned fruit or even trail mix (or yummy Shakeology snacks!)
BENEFIT: Grab &; Go eliminates the syndrome of " I'll have an oreo" just because its convenient to grab.
TIP: Snack sizes ziplock bags work great because they are 1/2 the size of a sandwich bag, so you're portion is already done for you!
4. Make all 5 meals at one time. Okay, this does take a couple hours to do (maybe longer your first time).  It does get easier and you do get quicker!  Take your 5 recipes, hand one to each family member and say "GO". Start making them. It takes only a little bit longer to cook 3# of turkey meat as it does 1#.   It takes almost the same amount of time to grill 3# of chicken breasts as it does to grill just 2 of them.  Once your meals are all cooked, have a few large containers so you can either freeze them immediately, or, have some containers so you can portion them into your lunches for the week.
BENEFIT:  After work, you don't have to think "what am I having for food tonight?"  because you have that part done.  It becomes "lets reheat this"  which takes minutes!
TIP: This one is a time saver for your evenings during the week!   You use zero seconds to prepare your food after work....which gives you time each evening!

Bonus Tip: Prep your food ahead of time, all 5 days, and you are more likely to stay on track with your nutrition ALL week!

3 Detox Tips

When you’re starting on Clean eating, I recommend starting your morning with a little fruit. This flushes out the toxins in your body you are storing from the unhealthy processed foods you are eating.
  • Make Detox Lemon Cucumber Water.  Make a liter of this and store it in your fridge. When you replace sugary drinks with water, you eliminate calories and start to get your tongue desensitized from the SUGAR.   Add a little ginger, which has anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Detox your mind. Start to do some Yoga or Pilates or a combo (PiYo) to help detox your mind and make you feel grounded and refreshed. Half of the battle isn't with food cravings, its with your mind making excuses that you believe in. Stop listening to that voice and start listening to the voice that says "I deserve to treat my body in a healthy way. I deserve to feed my body the foods and nutrients it needs"
  • Eat fruit first thing in the morning. Again... Eat fruit in the morning. This helps detox your digestive system from the toxins and gives you energy.  Stop eating grains as the 1st thing in your day.  Save them for NOON and don't have any after 3pm.
