Basic Spaghetti Sauce

Basic Spaghetti Sauce

Serving size: 1/2 Cup (1 green)
Makes:  3 1/2 cups
A simple yet versatile tomato sauce that is perfect for spaghetti, pizza or chicken Parmesan. Cook it over your stove top, or in your crockpot. I think that you will find it easy to make and delicious in flavor.
Use your favorite spice to flavor the sauce however you choose. In my recipe, I have used Italian seasoning.  You could easily swap it out for a taco seasoning (obviously you would need to increase the amount of seasoning for Taco) and create your own taco sauce.

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 cup diced yellow onion
2 to 3 *cloves garlic, chopped or minced
* if using jarred minced garlic, I use 2 Tablespoons

28-ounces crushed or diced tomatoes  (1 can)
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
1/2 tsp Salt  (to taste)
Directions:
Heat the olive oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.  Add the onions and saute until translucent.  Add the garlic and cook and stir another 2 to 3 minutes.
Place tomatoes in a small crock pot

Add the sautee'd veggies

Add the pepper, salt and seasoning
Cook on low 3-4 hours, or on high 1 hour
If using your stove top, cook on medium heat until completely heated.
Carefully remove from crock (or pan) and place the sauce in your blender or food processor.
Blend until desired consistency is reached.

Serve and Enjoy...
or can it :)
