Strawberry Apple Sauce

Makes: 6 cups

Ingredients

3 Cups fresh or frozen strawberries (not thawed)
10 - 12 medium size apples
1 cup water, (use less if using frozen fruit) Adjust as necessary.
1/4 cup sugar or natural sweetener, (optional)


Directions
1. Wash fresh strawberries and apples.
2. Slice Strawberries
3. Peel, core and quarter the apples.
4. Place water and all of the fruit into a large pan and boil over med-high heat.
5. When the mixture starts to boil, reduce the heat to med-low
6. Simmer about 15minutes or until mixture is tender. You may need to have a lid partially covering the fruit. this is helpful to help avoid mess. A splash mesh screen works well also.

7. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool in the pan for 15-30 minutes
8. Place mixture (by batches if need) into a blender and blend until smooth (desired smoothness)
9.  Stir in the sugar/sweetener (optional)
10. Place into cleaned Jars or heavy zip lock baggies
 
Storage:
Refrigerator 5-7 days
Freezer, up to 1 year
Canned of course lasts a long time :)


Portions:
Makes 12 portions: if using 3c berries and 12 apples = 15 purple for entire recipe.
Per portion = 1.25 purple if sugar is not used.
